تاريخ بارز يمتد على مئة عام من الحرب ضد الفلسطينيين، يرويه أبرز المؤرخين الأمريكيين المتخصصين في الشرق الأوسط.

About This Book

في عام 1899، كتب يوسف ضياء الخالدي، رئيس بلدية القدس، رسالة موجّهة إلى تيودور هرتزل بعدما أقلقته الدعوة الصهيونية لإنشاء وطن قومي لليهود في فلسطين. أوضح فيها أن البلاد لها شعب أصيل لن يقبل بسهولة اقتلاعه من أرضه. وحذّر من الأخطار المقبلة، مختتماً رسالته بالقول: «باسم الله، دعوا فلسطين وشأنها».

ومن هنا يبدأ رشيد الخالدي، ابن شقيق يوسف ضياء الأكبر، هذا السرد التاريخي الواسع، الذي يُعد أول رواية شاملة للصراع تُقدَّم من منظور فلسطيني صريح.

مستنداً إلى ثروة من المواد الأرشيفية غير المستغلة، وإلى تقارير أجيال من أفراد عائلته ـ من رؤساء بلديات وقضاة وعلماء ودبلوماسيين وصحفيين ـ يقلب كتاب «حرب المئة عام على فلسطين» التفسيرات السائدة للصراع، التي غالباً ما تصفه بأنه مأساة ناتجة عن صدام بين شعبين يتنازعان على الأرض نفسها.

لكن الخالدي يتتبع مئة عام من حرب استعمارية على الفلسطينيين، شنّها أولاً المشروع الصهيوني ثم دولة إسرائيل، بدعم من بريطانيا والولايات المتحدة، القوى العظمى في ذلك العصر. ويسلّط الضوء على المحطات الأساسية في هذه الحملة الاستعمارية، من وعد بلفور عام 1917 إلى نكبة 1948، ومن اجتياح إسرائيل للبنان عام 1982 إلى عملية السلام التي لا تنتهي ولا تُثمر.

إن كتاب «حرب المئة عام على فلسطين» عمل أصيل وموثوق ومهم؛ فهو ليس مجرد سجل للضحايا، ولا يتجاهل أخطاء القيادات الفلسطينية أو ينكر نشوء الحركات الوطنية على الجانبين. بل إنه، من خلال إعادة تقييم القوى التي واجهت الفلسطينيين، يقدّم رؤية جديدة ومضيئة لصراع ما زال مستمراً حتى يومنا هذا.
