October 18, 2026 | Kenya–DR Congo

Kenya continues to monitor the Ebola outbreak, with 7 confirmed cases, according to the latest Health Ministry figures released on October 17.

3 healthcare workers who treated the country’s first Ebola patient are among the infected.

4 recently confirmed patients were already in quarantine when symptoms appeared.

128 of 130 identified contacts have been traced and quarantined.

No sustained community transmission has been detected, according to Kenyan authorities.

The outbreak is linked to the much larger Bundibugyo Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

No additional infections or new restrictions on cross-border trade and travel have been independently confirmed since the latest update.

ASSESSMENT: The absence of new cases does not mean the outbreak is over.

East Africa’s priority is to prevent transmission beyond known contacts, protect healthcare workers and strengthen regional surveillance without unnecessarily disrupting trade and travel.

Containing Ebola requires early detection, coordinated action and strong healthcare systems—not panic.
