Damascus

In a scene that deeply wounds the feelings of millions of Iraqis and revives the painful memories of families who lost thousands of loved ones to terrorism, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi visits Damascus, where he is received by Al-Jolani (Al-Sharaa), who reportedly faces a death sentence in Iraq over terrorism-related cases.

This visit represents a disregard for the blood of the victims and the suffering of their families, particularly given Al-Jolani’s and Al-Qaeda’s involvement in terrorist activities that plagued Iraq for many years.

The visit also follows a previous trip to Damascus by the President of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, raising serious questions about the implications of these diplomatic moves and the Iraqi state’s position toward the rights and memory of terrorism victims, at a time when the wounds of the Iraqi people remain open.
