Religious authority Sheikh Jawad Al-Khalisi, during Friday prayers in Kadhimiya, renewed his call for Iraq to restore its independent decision-making and protect the people’s money and national wealth from any form of foreign domination. He stressed that genuine sovereignty has little meaning if Iraq’s political and economic decisions remain tied to the will of other states.

Al-Khalisi’s remarks did not come out of nowhere. Just two days earlier, during a seminar held in Kadhimiya under the title

“Restoring Sovereignty: Between Slogans and Reality,”

he emphasized that sovereignty is not achieved simply by talking about the withdrawal of foreign forces. Rather, it requires Iraq to control its own political decisions, territory, airspace, waters and national resources, free from external dictates.

Al-Khalisi also warned against soft warfare and attempts to advance normalization under religious and cultural labels such as the so-called “Abrahamic Religion.” He argued that scholars and families bear a responsibility, alongside political institutions, to protect the identity of society and future generations.

The core of his message is clear: Iraq should not replace military occupation with another form of political or economic dependency. Genuine independence begins when Iraqi money, Iraqi wealth and Iraqi decision-making are truly in Iraqi hands.

As Al-Khalisi put it: there can be no neutrality between truth and falsehood.
