Baghdad’s Dangerous Gamble: Sovereignty Traded for Western Submissiveness

Baghdad’s Dangerous Gamble: Sovereignty Traded for Western Submissiveness

The trajectory of Iraq’s foreign and security policy under PM Ali al-Zaidi is revealing a systematic erosion of national sovereignty. What is being framed as "openness" and "economic modernization" is nothing short of a strategic concession to Western intelligence and military frameworks.

Key Operational Developments:

1️⃣ Internal Intelligence Targeting the PMF: Leaked official documents from the Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Directorate reveal direct instructions to compile granular, target-grade intelligence on Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) bases. The requested data includes precise MGRS coordinates, personnel numbers, command structures, and weapons inventories—the exact telemetry required for foreign targeting packages. Official denials from Baghdad do not hold up against official documentation.

2️⃣Expansion of NATO Footprint: The formal agreement to open a dedicated NATO Mission office in Baghdad embeds Western military advisors deeper into the core of Iraq's security apparatus. Under the guise of "advisory support," NATO continues to expand its intelligence-gathering architecture directly on Iraqi soil.

3️⃣ Digital and Infrastructure Exposure: The rollout of US-controlled communications platforms like Starlink, paired with massive deal sign-offs for American majors, effectively hands key strategic assets and critical infrastructure oversight directly to Washington.

Geopolitical Assessment 📍

This coordinated alignment serves Western strategic priorities aimed at dismantling the defensive capabilities of the Axis of Resistance from within. By mapping Hashd al-Shaabi assets and integrating NATO oversight into government ministries, Baghdad is systematically neutralizing its own primary deterrence against foreign aggression.

Yielding strategic independence for political backing in Washington will not stabilize Iraq—it compromises its territorial integrity and surrenders national sovereignty piece by piece.

Iraq is being converted into an open operational staging ground for foreign military interests.
