The Islamic Resistance – Al-Nujaba Movement has issued an official statement categorically rejecting the proposed amendments to Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Law, warning that they aim to weaken the PMF, undermine its unity, and strip its personnel of their rights.

Why was the statement issued?

The statement comes amid growing controversy over proposed amendments to the long-awaited PMF legislation.

Al-Nujaba argues that the law’s adoption has been deliberately delayed to appease US President Donald Trump. The movement also accuses foreign actors of being behind the latest amendments, describing them as bearing

“Wahhabi and Zionist fingerprints”

and intended to weaken the PMF and diminish its role.

Key points from the statement:

▪️ Categorical rejection of the amendments: The movement rejected the proposed changes in their entirety, arguing that they are designed to fragment the PMF, undermine its cohesion, and reduce its role.

▪️ Remembering the fight against ISIS: Al-Nujaba highlighted the PMF’s role in confronting ISIS, emphasizing that it was instrumental in defending Iraq and its holy sites and protecting its people from massacres, displacement, and territorial fragmentation.

▪️ Allegations of conspiracy: The movement accused the United States, Israel, and regional actors, alongside domestic voices it described as

“paid agents,”

of continuously seeking to weaken, dismantle, and ultimately dissolve the PMF.

▪️ Rights of PMF personnel: It demanded fair legislation that safeguards the rights of PMF members, guarantees them equal treatment with their counterparts in Iraq’s other security forces, and protects all their current and future entitlements.

▪️ Honoring the martyrs: The movement stated that rejecting these amendments represents the minimum duty owed to the blood of

martyr Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis

and all other fallen PMF fighters.

What is the political significance of the statement?

Al-Nujaba’s position reflects growing opposition among certain Iraqi resistance factions to legislative changes perceived as attempts to restrict the PMF’s authority or weaken its position within Iraq’s security establishment.

The movement’s central message is clear: No acceptance of legislation that undermines the PMF’s standing, weakens its cohesion, or compromises the rights of its personnel.

The statement did not announce any specific escalatory measures. Instead, it focused on rejecting the proposed amendments and demanding legislation that preserves the PMF’s rights and institutional role.
