Jamil Al-Sayyed: We Are Already in the Worst
Following the destruction of Ghandour Hospital and the Finance Ministry building in Nabatieh, MP Jamil Al-Sayyed directly criticized President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, questioning the value of Lebanon remaining committed to the “Framework Agreement” while Israeli attacks continue.
Al-Sayyed said:
“Is what is happening not enough for Lebanon to announce its withdrawal from the Framework Agreement, which is already dead, instead of crying over the ruins every day?!”
He then responded to those who justify maintaining the agreement out of fear that withdrawing from it could lead to an even greater escalation:
“Some will say: We fear that if we withdraw from it, something even worse will befall us. We say:
We are already in the worst.”
The question that imposes itself:
If the agreement has failed to prevent the destruction of hospitals and public buildings, and has failed to stop shelling, displacement, and casualties, what remains of it beyond being a document used to constrain Lebanon while the other side continues imposing facts on the ground by force?
What is the point of adhering to an agreement that has neither a deterrence mechanism nor guarantees of implementation?
Lebanon does not need another statement of condemnation after every airstrike. It needs a clear political position defining what remains of the agreement, what Lebanon has actually received in return, and what it intends to do if Israel continues to cross every red line.
