BREAKING | Tough New Sanctions: U.S

Washington

The U.S. Senate has overwhelmingly passed the “Lindsey A. Graham Sanctions on Russia and Iran Act”, by a vote of 86–11. 🏛️

The bill now heads to the House of Representatives, which is expected to resume its sessions following the August recess.

Key provisions include:

• 💰 Tariffs on Russian energy buyers: The bill would authorize the U.S. president to impose tariffs of up to 100% on imports from the five largest purchasers of Russian crude oil or natural gas.

• 🇮🇷 Iran: The legislation would extend restrictions on Iran’s energy and arms sectors by renewing the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996 through 2031.

• 🇷🇺 Russia: The legislation establishes major direct sanctions targeting President Vladimir Putin and his inner circle, as well as the banking sector, state energy projects, and the so-called “shadow fleet” of oil tankers. 🚢

• 📈 Potential 500% tariffs: The bill would also authorize tariffs of up to 500% on direct imports from Russia.
