Calls to disarm or restructure the PMF under the pretext of strengthening the state overlook a hard truth: Iraq’s state apparatus, as it stands, lacks the capacity to fill the security vacuum that would result.

The Lebanese and Syrian examples are warnings. Should Iraq follow this path — chasing Western approval or short-term political gains — it risks sliding into a scenario of military impotence, renewed terrorism, and foreign political dominance.

The resistance networks in Lebanon and Iraq are not reckless militias; they are the last lines of national defense against designs of occupation and external control.
