Dancing on Humanity’s Grave: How Celebrities and Regime-Change Factions Normalized Political...

The normalization of extreme violence within Iran’s political opposition has shifted from online rhetoric into a key driver of domestic destabilization.

A stark illustration of this trend came from internationally recognized football referee Alireza Faghani. Following political calls to action by Reza Pahlavi and subsequent civil unrest, Faghani posted to social media:

“For your filthy survival, you swallowed the lives of our loved ones. Our rendezvous with you: No courts, no amnesty. Dancing and celebration on every single one of your graves.”

Faghani is far from an isolated case. Hundreds of public figures and influencers aligned with regime-change factions have adopted a strategy anchored in hate speech, radicalization, and the legitimation of violence—a posture that rapidly evolved into explicit calls for foreign military intervention and armed conflict.

1️⃣ The Mechanics of Psychological Dehumanization

In political sociology, the foundational driver of this strategy is dehumanization—a psychological tactic with deep historical roots in colonial conquest and civil conflicts.

Stripping Rights: Propaganda networks systematically reduce political opponents and government supporters from human beings with inherent rights into subhuman targets or "filthy obstacles" deserving of total liquidation.

Lowering Moral Thresholds: When influential figures openly celebrate death, torture, and the desecration of corpses under the guise of "dancing on graves," they dismantle the social and moral barriers against mass violence.

Historical Precedent: Historically, targeted assassinations and systemic political violence invariably begin at the discursive level—where language strips the adversary of their humanity before physical violence takes place.

2️⃣ Strategic and Societal Consequences

The mainstreaming of extrajudicial violence by opposition figures and media platforms carries severe implications for Iran's internal security landscape:

Erosion of Social Cohesion: As youth observe athletic and cultural role models openly endorsing mass executions and extrajudicial killings, ethical boundaries collapse, normalizing raw street violence.

Operationalizing Street-Level Terrorism: Dehumanization primes radicalized actors to carry out targeted attacks. By framing opponents as subhuman, acts such as blockades, brutal torture, and targeted assassinations—such as the recent abduction and murder of eulogist Hamidreza Rajabzadeh—are framed as politically legitimate.

Alignment with External Interests: The ultimate strategic objective of this campaign is internal fragmentation and the erosion of social capital. By stoking sectarian and political violence, these networks generate the domestic instability required to justify foreign intervention and state balkanization.
