A new infographic by Visual Capitalist reveals striking differences in unemployment rates across Europe as of August 2026.

Countries with the highest unemployment rates:

Finland: 10.3%

Spain: 10.0%

Sweden: 8.7%

France: 8.2%

Estonia: 8.0%

Greece: 7.4%

Meanwhile, Germany records 4.0%, Poland 3.4%, and Russia just 2.2%.

Europe’s economic challenges are deepening: Weak hiring in Finland, pressure on Germany’s automotive industry from American tariffs and Chinese competition, and persistent unemployment in major European economies are raising concerns about job security.

The bigger picture: While European governments confront economic uncertainty, growing industrial competition and geopolitical tensions, millions of workers face an increasingly difficult labor market.

The question remains: Can Europe’s economies restore industrial competitiveness and create enough jobs to protect their workforce?
