Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the mutual defense agreement known as the “Mecca Pact” constitutes a regional security framework and a natural complement to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), stressing that the alliance is purely defensive in nature and does not target any country in the region.
The Mecca Alliance, signed last August, is a strategic mutual-defense alliance and treaty bringing together Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan.
The agreement is based on the principle of collective defense, under which an armed attack against any member is considered an attack against all members. It aims to strengthen military deterrence and promote joint defense-industrial development and greater defense coordination among the three countries.
