The suffering of Iraqi Interior Ministry officer Lt. Col. Asaad Hamid Al-Huraishawi, who has been detained in Saudi prisons since 2020 while performing Umrah, continues.

Case Details

▪️ Reason for detention: He was reportedly detained after Saudi authorities searched his mobile phone and found photographs documenting his participation in operations to liberate Iraqi territory from ISIS, along with photographs of leaders of the liberation effort.

▪️ Legal status: He has reportedly been detained for more than six years without a fair trial or clear official explanation of his legal status or fate.

Similar Cases in Saudi Prisons

Repeated reports and complaints point to dozens of Iraqi citizens allegedly detained while performing Umrah or during transit on similar grounds, including digital searches or alleged affiliations with Iraqi security institutions and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).

Among the reported cases:

▪️ Dr. Hussein Al-Jamali: An Iraqi specialist reportedly detained while performing Umrah over digital content and posts related to the period of Iraq’s liberation of its cities.

▪️ Why do the Iraqi government and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior continue to overlook the case of a wounded Iraqi officer and other citizens who served their country?

▪️ How can an Iraqi citizen and serving officer remain detained for years without meaningful diplomatic action or genuine official pressure to protect him, demand his release, or establish the conditions of his detention?

Urgent action is required from all relevant authorities to end this neglect and secure the return of all Iraqi citizens and detainees held abroad.
