Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is no longer merely making provocative statements — over the past two weeks, his actions have followed a clear and increasingly dangerous trajectory: promoting executions, humiliating Palestinian prisoners, and openly challenging the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
August 20: Ben-Gvir publicly showcased a site intended for executions and promoted the execution of Palestinians convicted by Israeli authorities of what Israel defines as “terrorism.”
The message was unmistakable: executions were being presented not merely as a legal measure, but as an instrument of political intimidation.
August 30: Ben-Gvir released footage from Damon Prison, where Palestinian female prisoners have described degrading and inhumane conditions. Rather than responding to their complaints, he openly mocked their suffering, declaring that the days of what he called “summer camps”
in Israeli prisons were over and boasting about the harsher conditions imposed on Palestinian detainees.
Their testimonies have documented deprivation of basic necessities, including adequate hygiene, medical care, fresh water and the ability to change their clothes.
August 31: Just one day later, Ben-Gvir took his provocation to Al-Aqsa Mosque, entering the compound under heavy Israeli security protection and making inflammatory statements calling for changes to the existing status quo. He also spoke in support of what he described as “purification rituals”
and the construction of the so-called Jewish Temple at the site.
This is not a series of disconnected incidents.
It is a progression:
First, normalize the idea of executions.
Then, humiliate prisoners and strip them of basic rights.
Then, challenge the status quo at Al-Aqsa.
Each step pushes the boundary further — and each time, the absence of meaningful consequences creates space for the next provocation.
The deeper question is therefore not what Ben-Gvir will do next. It is why he continues to believe that he can do it with impunity.
The Arab and Muslim world watches as an extremist Israeli minister publicly revels in the humiliation of Palestinian women prisoners, promotes executions, and openly challenges the sanctity and status quo of one of Islam’s holiest sites.
So, will there finally be serious political action to put an end to this escalating lawlessness — or will the silence continue to be interpreted as permission?
