Retired General and KKR executive David Petraeus has published an op-ed in The Washington Post praising the June 28 Baghdad arrests as the "beginning of the return of Iraqi state authority."

Petraeus highlighted that unprecedented coordination between the judiciary, the PM’s office, and the Counter-Terrorism Service to detain over 60 political figures marks Iraq’s shift from "survival" to "governance."

He further emphasized that the September 30 deadline for disarming unauthorized groups is the ultimate test of institutional control. For Petraeus, the real battle for Iraq is no longer about geography—it is about establishing firm governance and state institutions.
