Hormuz Tensions: U.S. Treasury Targets Oman After Trump’s Threats
The U.S. Treasury Secretary, Scott Besant, issued a stern warning to Oman on Thursday regarding the Strait of Hormuz. His statement followed President Donald Trump’s explosive threat a day earlier to “blow up” Oman if it interfered with U.S. plans.
Besant declared on his official X account that Washington
“will not tolerate any attempt to impose transit fees in Hormuz.”
He added that Oman must understand the Treasury will “
firmly target any entities—direct or indirect—facilitating such tolls,”
warning that partners cooperating in this process would also face punishment.
The Secretary concluded by urging all states to reject “
Iranian attempts to obstruct free trade flows,”
claiming that “
Tehran’s days of terrorizing the region are over.”
Trump had previously announced that Hormuz would remain “open for all” under U.S. protection, framing this as part of ongoing negotiations with Iran. He then singled out Oman, warning: “
Oman will act like any other state, or we will have to blow it up.”
AlMuraqeb Comment**:
Trump’s reckless language and Washington’s threats expose the fragility of U.S. strategy. Instead of stabilizing the Gulf, America is escalating tensions, undermining allies, and revealing its reliance on intimidation rather than diplomacy.
