Iranian MP Amir Hossein Sabeti commented on yesterday’s meeting between the Iranian delegation and Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in New York, saying that the outcome of such meetings would benefit Trump and help the Republicans remain in power.

Sabeti added that, aside from reports suggesting the move had not been approved by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and that the Supreme Leader had not authorized the meeting, any development that leads to lower oil prices and can be presented ahead of the next U.S. presidential election as a political and diplomatic achievement for Trump would significantly help the ruling establishment in the United States win votes again.

He continued:

“These hasty and ill-considered steps have nothing to do with patriotism or protecting national interests. They will lead to an escalation of the war against Iran in the future. But what can we do if understanding these obvious realities is beyond the capacity of some officials and supporters of the so-called consensus government in Iran?”
