TEHRAN – Ali Khezrian, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, has expressed deep concern over reports that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi plans to hold talks with Gulf states in New York regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Khezrian warned that the choice of venue and timing would put Tehran in a "position of weakness."
Gulf States Must Be Held Accountable
Khezrian criticized the stance of certain Gulf nations, asserting that Tehran is under no obligation to provide answers.
"We are not in a position to be questioned regarding the Strait of Hormuz," Khezrian stated. "Instead, nations like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain must be held accountable for their cooperation with the U.S. and the Zionist regime. Specifically, the UAE must explain its reasons for hosting Zionist officials."
Regional Security Belongs Inside the Region
The lawmaker stressed that while Tehran is open to dialogue, it must take place within the region, not on "enemy soil."
"We do not fear dialogue; we can host the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) right here in Tehran to discuss regional security," he added. "I urge the Foreign Ministry spokesperson to cancel any such plans immediately and deny the reports. If they do, I will be the first to thank them."
