Hawsh al-Sayyid Ali – Hermel District | October 9, 2026

An Israeli drone carried out a strike using a guided missile against an SUV traveling through the village of Hawsh al-Sayyid Ali, near the Lebanese-Syrian border, in what is believed to have been an assassination attempt.

What happened?

▪️ According to a correspondent for Lebanon’s An-Nahar newspaper, the Israeli missile missed the targeted vehicle, and the assassination attempt failed to strike it directly.

▪️ Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported six people injured, including five Syrians and one Lebanese national. Two of the wounded were women.

▪️ The Israeli military claimed that the operation targeted a Syrian national named Youssef Ali al-Hassoun, alleging that he was operating under Iranian direction and planning attacks against Israeli forces in southern Syria.

▪️ The Israeli military did not confirm the target’s death, while reports from the scene indicated that the missile failed to hit the vehicle directly.

Military significance: What makes this strike particularly noteworthy is its location in Lebanon’s far northeast, well beyond the traditional southern front. The attack highlights the expanding geographical scope of Israeli military operations and their growing connection to the Syrian theater.

As of the initial reports, there has been no independent confirmation of the intended target’s fate.
