Iran possesses the capability to manufacture ballistic missiles with various ranges, but it previously limited their range to 2,000 kilometers under an order issued by the martyred Sayyed Ali Khamenei.
The late Supreme Leader did not issue a religious fatwa prohibiting an increase in the range of Iranian missiles. Rather, it was a political decision. Following his martyrdom, Sayyed Mojtaba may hold a different position regarding Iran’s missile capabilities.
The phrase “without geographical restrictions” may therefore signal Sayyed Mojtaba’s authorization to unveil longer-range missiles capable of reaching US military bases and interests in regions from which attacks against Iran could be launched, particularly locations that have previously been difficult to reach.
Furthermore, Iran possesses drones with ranges exceeding 2,000 kilometers, although it has so far refrained from deploying them against distant targets. The use of long-range drones in the next war could dramatically alter the military landscape.
Could Iran target the Diego Garcia military base? NATO bases outside the Middle East? Or could its next targets be American oil and gas interests beyond the region?
