Baghdad

Media outlets have circulated a leaked official letter attributed to Abdul Amir al-Shammari, Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, addressed to the Ministry of Interior, calling for the formation of an investigative committee and the dismissal of four officers:

• Commander of the Second Security Zone

• An officer from the Rusafa Police Command

• Commander of the Fifth Baghdad/Rusafa Emergency Regiment

• An intelligence officer from the same regiment

The letter reportedly calls for a formal board of inquiry into their alleged negligence and failure to perform their duties, accusing them of allowing members of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) to desecrate the United States flag during the “Sovereignty Day” parade.

It appears that Iraq’s Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has reached such a level of foolishness that he will stop at nothing to take revenge on those who insulted the flag of the country that brought him to power—even if doing so undermines Iraq’s own armed forces and their officers.
