Dubai’s tourism industry faces another serious setback as European low-cost carrier Wizz Air cancels its entire winter schedule to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, citing regional instability, airspace restrictions, and soaring operational costs.
The details:
▪️ All planned UAE flights cancelled from October 25, 2026, until March 27, 2027.
▪️ The airline says longer flight routes caused by regional airspace restrictions have made operations commercially unviable.
▪️ The cancelled restart was part of a wider Middle East expansion involving 49 weekly flights and 470,000 winter-season seats.
Dubai’s tourism industry is already feeling the consequences of regional conflict. Hotel occupancy plunged to approximately 36% in March before recovering to 66% in August, still below last year’s levels.
The cancellation raises fresh concerns for hotels, restaurants, retailers, and businesses dependent on European winter tourists. However, claims that Dubai’s entire hospitality sector is approaching bankruptcy remain unverified.
The economic warning is clear: even a global tourism hub cannot fully insulate itself from a prolonged regional conflict. Every cancelled route means lost visitors, lost spending, and additional pressure on an industry still struggling to recover.
