Video footage documented Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the Western Wall tunnels shortly before Yom Kippur, as part of preparations for the holiday.
Hundreds of worshippers took part in the final Selichot prayers before Yom Kippur at the Western Wall, in a large religious gathering.
The footage also showed Prime Minister Netanyahu and his wife praying at the Western Wall for the safety of Israeli army soldiers.
The visits come amid an intensified religious atmosphere in Jerusalem as Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Hebrew calendar, approaches, with heightened security measures around the Old City and the area surrounding the Western Wall.
Analysts argue that the repetition of these visits within a single week carries an electoral dimension, particularly as they appear aimed at religious and conservative voters, although Netanyahu’s office has made no official announcement to that effect.
The Buraq Wall is located along the western side of the courtyard of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City. It forms part of the mosque’s western wall, with the Haram al-Sharif courtyard separating it from Al-Aqsa Mosque.
