President Masoud Pezeshkian’s repeated statements emphasizing

“unity and cohesion”

come at a critical strategic moment, as the West and Washington seek to exploit any internal divisions in order to weaken the Iranian front. Yet the reality in Tehran is based on a firmly held assumption among the conservative camp and the senior leadership: the United States and Western countries have reneged on all their commitments, and their historical record of suffocating sanctions and unilateral withdrawals from agreements proves that relying on diplomacy with them is nothing more than a deadly illusion.

What Is Happening Inside Iran?

Some elements within the government are seeking to ease the impact of economic pressure by keeping channels for diplomatic maneuvering open, according to their understanding of the situation. By contrast, the conservative camp and the military establishment believe that taking steps backward in the face of Washington will only embolden the enemy, and that the national economy and military deterrence are the only solid foundations capable of breaking the siege plans.

Reasons for the Dispute and Points of Divergence

The disagreement is not over the legitimacy of the system or its broad principles, but rather over the utility of negotiations and the strategic tactics for confronting external pressure.

The Conservative Camp and Armed Forces — The Decisive Position Against the West

Conservative leaders believe that previous experiences with Washington, which imposed more than 1,500 punitive measures and banned exports, demonstrate the futility of making concessions or offering support. Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, stated in one of his posts:

“Experience has proven that the West understands only the language of strength, and relying on American and Western commitments is a strategic mistake; it is impossible to trust partners who impose sanctions while simultaneously violating their commitments.”

As for Hossein Shariatmadari, editor-in-chief of the conservative-leaning Kayhan newspaper, he stated bluntly:

“Any temporary truce or negotiations with the United States while its pressure continues are nothing more than a free gift to the enemy and a reward for its aggressive behavior.”

A short while ago, the spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also stated that:

“The repercussions for the global economy and global energy security must be taken into consideration.”

The Government and Its Supporters — Discipline Under the Leadership’s Authority

The government is seeking to reaffirm its commitment to national principles and its adherence to the guidance of the Supreme Leader, even if its response has come somewhat late. President Masoud Pezeshkian stated at a press conference:

“We must stay away from creating divisions and speak with one unified voice before the world.”

President Pezeshkian added:

“I had a very good meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei that lasted seven hours, during which we discussed the country’s affairs… The Supreme Leader called for unity and cohesion because the enemy is currently focusing on creating division within our country.”

Conclusion

The senior leadership fully understands the dimensions of the American-Western conspiracy aimed at creating fractures within Iranian society and institutions. The current political debate is not a sign of weakness but is being managed carefully.

Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei fully understands how Washington seeks to impose its will through sanctions and disinformation, and he holds firmly to the political and military deterrence compass needed to thwart Western deception and preserve the country’s sovereignty.

The appointment of Major General Mohsin Rezaei as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council in Iran 🇮🇷 and representative of the Leader of the Revolution, along with the modification of the negotiating team—adding General Vahidi, Brigadier General Hossein Fedaei, and chief negotiator Saeed Jalili—is a step toward strengthening the Security Council and the negotiating delegation with veteran and more revolutionary political figures 🎖️, as well as creating a balance with politicians from the moderate and reformist factions .

This means we are facing leadership that is more revolutionary and closer in alignment with Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei and his ideas ⚡.

This step was agreed upon and coordinated during the meeting between President Masoud Pezeshkian and Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei .

Of course, these appointments send clear messages both domestically and abroad 📢: the Islamic Republic is taking a new approach to confronting the enemy, centered on adhering to revolutionary principles 📜, adapting to the new regional order established by Iranian missiles and drones 🚀🛸, and making strategic use of Iran's leverage—particularly the strategic weapon of the Strait of Hormuz .
