Political Researcher Hussein Baroud Released in Baghdad After Weeks in Detention

Baghdad

After spending several weeks behind bars over his positions opposing the sale of Iraq’s national resources and the surrender of Resistance weapons to U.S. intervention and its agendas, political researcher and journalist Hussein Baroud was released today.

Iraqi security forces had previously detained him over his staunch defense of Iraq’s sovereignty and his outright rejection of U.S. dictates and policies targeting the country’s resources. His detention was met at the time with widespread condemnation, with critics describing it as a blatant attempt to silence dissenting voices and suppress those opposed to Washington.

His release now brings to a close a chapter of the pressure surrounding his period in detention.
