Rapid Response to Washington’s Pressure: Al-Zaidi Acts on U.S

Baghdad
In a move reflecting direct subordination to U.S. directives, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi issued immediate orders to form an investigative committee into the attack targeting the office of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the headquarters of the region’s intelligence chief in Erbil.
Al-Zaidi’s move came just minutes after a strongly worded warning from U.S. Special Envoy for Iraq and Syria Tom Barrack, in which he stressed that attacks targeting Washington’s allies would not be tolerated, while instructing the Iraqi government to assert its sovereignty and ensure that weapons remain exclusively in the hands of the state.
This rapid response demonstrates Al-Zaidi’s immediate compliance with Barrack’s directives, aimed at containing U.S. anger and identifying those responsible for the attack before the public as quickly as possible.
