Talks between Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Iranian leadership in Tehran focused on ways to prevent further escalation and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, as Washington tightens its economic pressure on Iran and threatens sanctions against any country providing Tehran with a “lifeline.”
According to a statement from the Pakistani military, the discussions addressed
“measures to prevent further escalation, reopen the strait, and urgently end the conflict.”
The visit is being framed as an attempt to find a diplomatic exit from the crisis amid intensifying U.S. economic pressure on Iran.
Reuters also reported on Monday that Munir had spoken with U.S. President Donald Trump ahead of his visit to Tehran.
The Strait of Hormuz has once again become the central pressure point in the confrontation between Iran and Washington—with Pakistan now attempting to position itself as a diplomatic intermediary.
