According to circulating satellite imagery attributed to NASA data, a dense smoke plume stretches for more than 60 kilometers from the area of the Petro Rabigh refining and petrochemical complex overlooking the Red Sea.
The imagery reflects the scale of the major fire that broke out at the facility, amid reports that it was struck in an attack originating from Yemen.
The Rabigh complex is one of the most important refining and petrochemical facilities on Saudi Arabia’s western coast, with Saudi Aramco serving as a major partner.
So far, Saudi authorities have not officially confirmed the cause of the fire or the final extent of the damage, while the claim that the smoke plume extends for more than 60 kilometers still requires independent confirmation from the original satellite data.
