Sweida Calls for Border Crossing with Jordan

Sweida Calls for Border Crossing with Jordan

In a notable development, the Druze spiritual leadership in Sweida, headed by Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, issued an urgent appeal to Jordan’s King Abdullah II to open a humanitarian crossing with Jordan, following a bloody attack on civilians that prompted the declaration of public mourning. The call emphasized support for the wounded, limiting condolence visits, and expressed clear solidarity with the Kurds in the north.

However, behind these humanitarian demands, observers warn this move could pave the way for the so-called “David Corridor” — the Israeli plan to link the Golan Heights to Iraq via southern Syria, under the guise of humanitarian corridors, serving the vision of “Greater Israel” and expanding its influence eastward. Will this crossing shift from a relief effort to a gateway for redrawing the power map of the Levant?
