taiwan’s “Unprecedented” AI Cyberattack — and Why was an Israeli Company Involved?

Taiwan says it faced what the Financial Times described as an “unprecedented” AI-driven cyberattack, allegedly launched by suspected Chinese hackers.

The reported operation is significant not simply because of who was targeted — but because of how the attack reportedly evolved.

Open-source AI agents allegedly operated for four days in July, targeting 21 Taiwanese government websites and compromising 85 government user accounts.

When defensive measures were introduced, the AI agents reportedly adapted their behavior and continued operating, highlighting a potentially dangerous shift toward autonomous cyber operations.

But there is another detail that deserves far more scrutiny:

The attack was reportedly first uncovered by an Israeli AI company called “Dream.”

And Dream’s Chief Strategy Officer reportedly previously headed cyber operations within Israel’s elite Unit 8200.

That raises an obvious question:

Why was an Israeli AI Company the Entity That Discovered the Attack?

This does not prove Israeli involvement in the cyberattack. That conclusion would go beyond the available evidence.

But the connection deserves examination.

Why was an Israeli-linked cyber-intelligence operation positioned to detect the activity?

What was Dream monitoring?

Was it independently investigating the attack, working with Taiwanese authorities, or operating as part of a broader intelligence-sharing network?

And perhaps most importantly:

Who had access to the attack data before the public disclosure?

The AI arms race is no longer confined to military applications. Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of the intelligence and cyberwarfare ecosystem — where attribution, surveillance and counterintelligence can be as strategically important as the attack itself.

The real story may therefore be bigger than China vs. Taiwan.

It may also be about who is watching the watchers.
