Instead, these same leaders rushed to welcome Ahmad al-Shar’a (Abu Mohammed al-Golani)—a man they all previously recognized as a terrorist—as Syria’s new head of state. The hypocrisy could not be more glaring: ignoring Israeli crimes against an Arab prime minister while embracing a former al-Qaeda commander as legitimate.

Who Is Abu Mohammed al-Golani? From Terror to Legitimacy
