The Shadow War: How America Weaponizes False Flags to Tarnish Iraq's Resistance

Defining the Dirty Game:

A "false flag operation" is covert action designed to appear as the work of an enemy, state, or group other than the true perpetrator. Its purpose is manipulation: to manufacture consent for war, destabilize adversaries, discredit resistance movements, or justify foreign intervention. For decades, the United States and its ally Israel have employed this tactic against Arab and Muslim nations – Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, and Iran – seeking to reshape the region to their advantage.

A History of Manufactured Pretexts- The historical record reveals a disturbing pattern:

1️⃣ The Nayirah Testimony (1990):

A fabricated story of Iraqi soldiers killing Kuwaiti babies, orchestrated by a US PR firm and Kuwaiti exiles, fueled outrage and paved the way for the Gulf War.

2️⃣ Iraq WMD Lies (2001-2003):

The US and UK built the Iraq invasion on deliberate falsehoods: the non-existent Niger uranium deal, the fabricated claims of defector "Curveball," and the manufactured link between Saddam Hussein and 9/11. These were ‘political’ false flags, creating a pretext for catastrophic war.

3️⃣ Targeting Iran:

Covert actions like Stuxnet (sabotaging nuclear facilities while masking origin), assassinations of scientists (blamed on internal dissent), and alleged plots like the 2012 Azerbaijan false flag plan (framing Iran for attacks) demonstrate a sustained campaign of deception against Tehran.

4️⃣ Undermining Lebanon & Egypt:

Israel's Lavon Affair (1954) involved bombing Western targets in Egypt to frame local groups, while its exploitation of the Argov assassination (1982) and enabling of the Sabra and Shatila massacre showcased using real or created chaos to justify invasions and target Palestinian resistance.

The Goal:

Fracture sovereign states, eliminate independent resistance, install pliant regimes, and secure regional dominance by making legitimate opposition forces appear criminal, barbaric, or terrorist.

Iraq's The PMF: America's Current Target

**🔹Today, this playbook is being ruthlessly applied against Iraq's ‘Popular Mobilization Forces (al-Hashd al-Shaabi)' . The aim is clear: dehumanize the PMF, strip it of its sacred legitimacy as a national resistance force, and create chaos to justify continued US intervention.

The Recent Smear Campaign: A Case Study in Fabrication 🔹The events surrounding clashes at Iraq's Agriculture Ministry building very recently and the subsequent kidnapping of a lawyer and activist are textbook examples of this strategy: 1. Manufacturing Blame:

A dispute over replacing a ministry director (reportedly affiliated with KH) escalated into violence. While the Security Media Cell stated that ‘ 14 individuals arrested belonged to PMF Brigades 45 and 46 (KH)’ , Kata'ib Hezbollah's official statement ‘ categorically denied involvement ‘ . It detailed how an overzealous officer initiated fire, leading to tragic deaths and injuries, and described how PMF personnel arriving later to aid the injured were ‘then’ targeted and besieged by security forces.

2. Immediate US Exploitation:

With breathtaking speed and disregard for due process, the US Embassy in Baghdad tweeted , "We mourn the victims killed by 'PMF factions' at the Agriculture Ministry." This blatant, premature accusation, using the loaded term "factions", was designed to cement a false narrative internationally.

3. The Lawyer Kidnapping & Character Assassination:

The reprehensible kidnapping of a lawyer critical of Iran and the leaking of her private photos on social media was instantly blamed on "PMF security." Researcher Liqaa Makki called it a "shameful scandal," reflecting the damage done.

While utterly condemnable, the immediate, orchestrated finger-pointing at the PMF without evidence, amplified by media channels known to align with US interests, fits the pattern of a smear campaign designed to provoke public outrage against the Hashd.
