Trump Stuns NATO: Using Trade Tariffs and a New Turkey Deal to Get His Way

While NATO leaders are meeting in Ankara, Turkey, for their 2026 summit, President Donald Trump is shaking up the military alliance. Instead of sticking to typical diplomatic talk, Trump is using the meeting to push his business-style approach. He brought back his old plan to buy Greenland and shocked everyone by lifting major sanctions on Turkey. This comes at a very tense time, right before the US plans to hit its own allies with huge new trade taxes (tariffs) later this month.

What is Actually Happening here?

Rewarding Turkey to Break the Line:

By lifting sanctions on Turkey—which were put in place because Turkey bought military gear from Russia—and offering them advanced F-35 fighter jets again, Trump is playing favorites. He is basically telling Turkey, "You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours," while leaving America's traditional European allies out in the cold.
