Overnight, Ukraine launched one of the largest drone attack waves against Moscow, while Russia reported intercepting more than 1,600 drones, including 450 that were heading toward the capital.
Reports indicated that the strikes hit the Kapotnya Oil Refinery, the largest refinery in Moscow, as well as residential buildings. Two people were reportedly killed in the Moscow region, and around 400 people were evacuated.
Flight restrictions were also imposed at Moscow’s airports.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the attack as “unprecedented” and accused Ukraine of attempting to disrupt elections to the State Duma, stating that this objective “was not achieved.” He added that air defenses had intercepted more than 1,600 drones since the beginning of the attack, including approximately 450 approaching the capital.
The attack came less than two days after another assault described as “one of the largest in recent years.” On September 18, Sobyanin announced that around 350 drones heading toward Moscow had been detected.
On the same day, Ukraine reportedly targeted the Rostov military airfield and shut down the Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Yaroslavl.
