US Army Plans 10x Surge in Missile Defense Procurement for FY2027

The Pentagon is moving to rapidly expand its missile-defense stockpiles, targeting a roughly tenfold increase in PAC-3 MSE and THAAD interceptor purchases compared to FY2026, according to Army budget documents reviewed by Fox News.

Key Highlights:

FY2027 Target: The Army is requesting 3,655 interceptors as part of a broader push to scale up production capacity and rebuild reserves.

PAC-3 MSE: Purchases dropped from 328 in 2022 to 214 in 2025, before ticking up to 320 in the 2026 request.

THAAD: Procurement remained low in recent years—just 11 in 2024 and 12 in 2025—before a planned increase to 37 in 2026.

Total Objective: The Army has quadrupled its overall PAC-3 MSE acquisition goal, raising the target from 3,376 to 13,773 missiles.
