New York
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that a meeting between U.S. officials and an Iranian delegation took place and described the three-hour talks as
“very productive,”
adding that another meeting is expected to take place in the near future.
U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, for his part, expressed strong satisfaction with the results achieved so far in the dialogue.
Meanwhile, Iran’s official media, Tasnim News Agency, confirmed that the meeting brought together U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump administration intermediary Jared Kushner with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Tasnim reported that the meeting came after
“repeated requests from the U.S. side.”
According to the Iranian side, Tehran used the meeting to convey its conditions for resuming negotiations and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. These conditions include the immediate lifting of the maritime blockade, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and an end to the war on all fronts.
The unexpected diplomatic activity comes amid sharp statements by President Trump, who urged Iran’s leaders to seize the opportunity before it is too late and warned of potential consequences if tensions escalate. At the same time, questions and unease are reportedly emerging within Iranian political and public circles over the timing and prospects of the negotiations.
