The United States has reportedly deployed more than 100 military advisors to Saudi Arabia to provide intelligence and battlefield support as Riyadh intensifies its military campaign against Yemen’s Ansar Allah.

According to CNN, citing U.S. sources, the American personnel are providing Saudi forces with:

▪️ Geospatial intelligence

▪️ Real-time battlefield tracking

▪️ Intelligence and operational support

The number of U.S. personnel in Saudi Arabia could eventually reach around 200, the report said.

Washington maintains that its forces are not directly participating in airstrikes or refueling Saudi aircraft. However, the deployment represents a deeper level of U.S. involvement in the renewed conflict.

The strategic significance

Intelligence, surveillance, targeting data and battlefield tracking can substantially enhance the effectiveness of air and ground operations even without U.S. personnel directly conducting strikes.

The development therefore raises a central concern :

It seems that Washington is becoming a direct operational enabler of Saudi military action in Yemen while maintaining the formal distinction of “non-combat involvement”!?
