U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that all Iranian airlines will cease operating worldwide as of September 23, as part of an unprecedented economic pressure campaign being imposed by Washington on Tehran.
In remarks to CNBC, Bessent explained that the stringent mechanism adopted by the U.S. administration would impose severe secondary sanctions on any entity or airport that provides services to Iranian airlines.
Bessent said:
“On September 23, all Iranian airlines will cease operating around the world. How are we going to do that? If those planes land, nobody will be allowed to fuel them, provide them with landing services, or sell tickets for them. Otherwise, you will be completely excluded from the dollar-based financial system.”
