The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned of a worsening hunger catastrophe in Yemen, with more than 200,000 people displaced as fighting intensifies.
The figures are devastating:
▪️ 74% of households in the areas surveyed are unable to meet their basic food needs.
▪️ 18.3 million Yemenis are suffering from acute food insecurity.
▪️ 2.2 million children under the age of five are suffering from acute malnutrition, including 500,000 in extremely critical condition.
But this humanitarian tragedy did not begin today!
Since 2015, the blockade and economic, maritime, and aviation restrictions imposed by the Saudi-led coalition have contributed to choking imports and disrupting the supply of fuel, food, and medicine, worsening the suffering of millions of Yemenis for years, alongside the destruction caused by the war.
More than a decade of war, blockade, and economic devastation, and Yemenis continue to pay the price with their children’s hunger!
Where is the international community in the face of this catastrophe? And why are those responsible for starving civilians and depriving them of the most basic necessities of life not being held accountable?
